The 2022 Three Rivers Cabernet Sauvignon from Walla Walla, WA showed up on a chilly night when all I wanted was seared meat and a wine that could keep up. The back label? Practically nonexistent. Just the who and where, like a witness protection program for tasting notes. No helpful hints, no poetic rambling—just a silent bottle daring me to find out the hard way. Suspicious… but also intriguing.
First sip: me likey. Medium puckeryishness (the official technical term), a pretty strong oak presence, and some solid jam flavor without drifting into sugar bomb territory. It felt bold enough to stand next to my seared beast of choice, which is really the only test that matters on a cold night. And pass the test it did. Steak and this Cab got along like old drinking buddies.
Day two tasting notes are… limited. Mostly because there wasn’t much left for day two. What little survived seemed just fine, but honestly, the first night did most of the heavy lifting. Always a good sign when you forget to save any for “proper evaluation.”
At $9.99, this was a very respectable bottle that delivered where it counted: with meat, on a cold night, and without any nonsense. I’ll definitely be going back for more—assuming the store still has some and I don’t buy it all myself.
