2 wine glasses

Fellow winos, sometimes bottle finds you. You are walking through wine aisle, minding your business, and suddenly a skeleton hand on the label is giving you the finger. Ah, finally, wine with attitude. I picked up the bottle, held the label toward another shopper who was pushing past me. They did not laugh. Perhaps they were not ready for advanced wine humor. Their loss.

The wine is 2021 Hey You! from Neleman Wines in Spain, made from 100% Marselan, which is a grape that apparently decided it wanted to be the child of Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. The back label was very direct: oversized letters telling me alcohol percentage, bottle size, and that it was made with organic grapes. Very helpful. Very efficient. I assume the designer finished the label, drank too much wine, and said, “Enough. I have other things to do.” Honestly, I respect this approach.

Second glass brought lots of jam, a little spice, and medium-light puckeryishness. There was good flavor, but I could not quite put my finger on exactly what I was tasting.   The smell reminded me strongly of Zinfandel, and this is where we have a problem because Zinfandel and I are not best friends. The wine is not bad. Went OK with leftover sausage and onions. It is perfectly drinkable. It just is not my personal adventure. At around $9.99, it is still a fun bottle to try, especially if you enjoy wines with attitude and skeletons who are not afraid to express themselves.
